- Cupping involves the use of silicone or plastic suction cups, placed on the skin. The skin is suctioned up into the cup with varying degrees of pressure.
- By pulling the skin into the cup, the underlying tissues are also decompressed, allowing proper circulation and blood flow to be restored. The cup may remain stationary or can be glided along the skin in order to perform a cupping massage.
- Some areas may feel uncomfortable during treatment, as this tends to go deeper into the muscle tissue. Your practitioner will work with you to decide if this is the best method to use, or if some areas require a gentler approach.
- Cupping can also leave bruising marks. These often look way worse than they feel. The coloration you experience after cupping is from the trapped metabolites being pulled up to the surface of the skin. These usually fade in 3-5 days.
